nausicaa comes true!


	"Twenty plus years after its conception by artist Hayao Miyazaki, technology has finally caught up to the limits of human imagination. . ." is how a newspaper would probably put it. Being the realist that I am, I'll just give you the facts and let you figure out for yourself its signifiance. But it sure is cool! WHO: Kazuhiko Hachiya--media artist, Satoru Shinohe--aerospace engineer, and other aviation and anime enthusiasts. WHAT: the design, fabrication, and test flight of a manned (soon-to-be) jet powered glider resembling Nausicaa's Mehve glider WHERE: Construction in Olympos Ltd.'s workshop. Flight testing at Meisei University in Northwest Tokyo. WHEN: Ongoing. Began in 2003 with flight testing of subscale models. Subsequent years entailed refinement in designs, building mockups for museums, and recruiting 'lady' pilots for PR. Currently conducting manned, low-altitude test flights with the assistance of a bungee tow. WHY: Motivated by, Hachiya and others of his generation--now in their 30's and 40's--who were inspired by the freedom of flight as portrayed by Nausicaa and her Mehve. are torrents legal ?

this question was already asked a while ago, and i'd got the answer. but a friend brought up the subject again -after seeing my last entry regarding anime.

so, are they ? as always, it depends !

wut i was talking about in my last entry refers to anime which has just started airing in Japan, and has not yet been licensed here in Italy. If you read the original post, you might remember the "Paranoia Agent" link being up there as well. Point taken ! a slip of the mind; i erased the link and all files i still had on my HD (was planning to anyway!)

So when are anime torrents legal? here's some bits of info i got from AnimeSuki:

What is licensed anime?
Licensed anime is any series or movie (part or whole) for which the rights to publish in a specific area have been bought.

The original purpose of fansubs
As recent as about 10 to 15 years ago anime was not easy to get outside of Asia. The few anime companies that existed could only bring out a few titles as they lacked the funds and the market for licensing more shows. To get more anime and also to encourage certain titles to get licensed in the US, some anime fans started to make fansubs: series which were taped of Japanese television with subtitles added. These fansubs were distributed on VHS tape. One of the self imposed rules the fansub groups adapted was that once a series was licensed in the US, distribution of the fansub should stop. After all, the fansub had served it's purpose.

Fansubs violate copyrights
We have to admit it: the distribution of fansubs is technically a violation of copyright under the WTO TRIPS agreement. However the TRIPS agreement does not demand that distribution of copyrighted material is a criminal offence unless it is done on a commercial scale. This means it is up to the copyright holder to bring the offender to court. The copyright of unlicensed material is held by the original creator. In the case of anime this usually means the Japanese distribution company.

Up until now fansub groups have had little to worry about legal pressure from Japan.

Still some series might need some help to get popular. Would you buy Azumanga Daioh DVDs if you had have never heard about it? Fansubs probably helped this series and others gain popularity. Also as there is so much anime being created in Japan, there will usually always be some series which don't get licensed for some reason, like Boys Be or Kokoro Library.

quindi? lo sono ? come sempre, dipende!

mi stavo riferendo nell'ultima entry ad anime appena uscito in Giappone di cui nessuno in Italia ha ancora acquistato la licenza. Se hai letto l'intervento originale ti ricorderai che avevo pubblicato anche il link per "Paranoia Agent". errore mio; ho cancellato il link e tutti i file associati che avevo su HD.

ma allora, quando sono legali i torrent degli anime? ecco alcune info che ho trovato su AnimeSuki :

cos'è un anime con licenza?

è qualsiasi serie o film (in parte o in totale) per cui i diritti di pubblicare in una area specifica sono stati comprati.

l'obiettivo originale dei fansub

10 - 15 anni fa, anime non era facilmente ottenibile al di fuori dell'Asia. Le poche compagnie di anime che esistevano lanciavano pochi titoli, non avendo abbastanza fondi e mercato per altri spettacoli. Per avere più anime e per incoraggiare la distribuzione di alcuni titoli negli USA alcuni fans di anime hanno cominciato a fare fansubs: serie che sono state registrate dalla TV Giapponese con sottotitoli aggiunti. Questi fansubs erano distribuiti in VHS. Una delle regole auto-imposte dai gruppi di fansub era che appena una serie otteneva la licenza negli USA, la distribuzione del fansub si dovrebbe fermare. In fondo, il fansub ha raggiunto il suo scopo.

I fansubs violano copyright

la distribuzione di fansubs è tecnicamente una violazione di copyright sotto l'accordo WTO TRIPS. Comunque, l'accordo TRIPS non richiede che la distribuzione di materiale con copyright sia un'offesa criminale, a meno che non sia fatto a livello commerciale. Questo significa che la decisione finale dipende da chi ha il copyright. Il copyright di materiale senza licenza è tenuto dal creatore originale. Nel caso di anime questo di solito significa la compagnia di distribuzione Giapponese.

Finora i gruppi di fansubs non hanno avuto molto di cui preoccuparsi per pressioni legali dal Giappone.

Inoltre, alcune serie potrebbero aver bisogno di una mano per diventare popolari. Compreresti i DVD di Azumanga Daioh se non ne hai mai sentito parlare? Fansubs probabilmente ha aiutato questa serie e molte altre ad ottenere popolarità. E, siccome ci sono tanti anime in produzione in Giappone, ci saranno sempre alcune serie che non otterranno mai la licenza per qualche ragione, ad esempio Boys Be e Kokoro Library.

i'll wrap this up by adding that respectable sites that host anime torrent links encourage buying originals and remove any links of anime once it gets licensed.

chiuderò aggiungendo che siti rispettabili che ospitano link a torrent di anime incoraggiano di comprare gli orginali e cancellano i link di anime appena viene ottenuta la licenza per essi.

yay !

- IRASSHAIMASE -

è uscito finalmente il secondo volume di Ouran HighSchool Host Club !! watashi wa totemo ureshii !! :)

e non finisce qui; ho scoperto che in giappone è cominciato anche l'anime !! oggi è uscita la terza puntata. manga e anime sono molto simili nei disegni, che sono molto belli e fatti bene. La storia finora è più o meno quella, con alcuni cambiamenti minori nell'anime. sono entrambi molto divertenti. Almeno una puntata guardatela poi decidete :)

visto ke la prima volta ke ho parlato di Ouran Host Club (hosto-bu) ho anche parlato di D.N.Angel dirò qlcs anke su quello. Beh, con questo almeno non devo aspettare 2 mesi per ogni volume -visto ke esce ogni mese! anke di questo esiste l'anime, e da un bel pò. xò il manga è più divertente dell'anime. finora ho visto solo 2 puntate, e mi sto scaricando altre tre. ma in generale non m'ispira un grankè. I disegni e le storie del manga sono belle, ma la qualità dell'anime invece diminuisce. cmq, tra 10 giorni esce il terzo volume.

Haruhi è una ragazza.. diversa! s'è presentata alla sua classe delle superiori cosi:

"non ho interesse negli umani normali. se ci sono alieni, viaggiatori nel tempo (time travellers), viaggiatori nelle dimensioni (sliders), o sensitivi (espers).. unitevi a me!"

Per ora sono uscite solo 3 puntate - e ancora una volta non ho trovato il sub in italiano ! la prima puntata dà l'impressione di un anime fatto male, finkè a un certo punto non si capisce cosa sta succedendo! per ora la storia si evolve attorno a un club che Haruhi vuole creare.. ma il finale della terza ha lasciato un punto in sospeso!

anche questo genere comedy :)

- Paranoia Agent:

del regista Giapponese Satoshi Kon.

La storia è ambientata nella Tokyo dei giorni nostri, e ruota attorno a un misterioso criminale che attacca dei passanti colpendoli con una mazza dorata. La sua prima vittima è la giovane e introversa Tsukiko Sagi, una designer famosa per aver creato una mascotte molto popolare in Giappone. Non si sa chi sia questo misterioso criminale, ne perché lo faccia: l’unica cosa certa è che sembra essere un ragazzino delle elementari che si muove sui rollerblade. Due investigatori cominciano a seguire il caso ma si rendono subito conto che c’è qualcosa che non quadra. Un viaggio in una realtà ambigua creata dai deliri paranoici delle persone. Un viaggio ideato e realizzato da uno dei più grandi autori contemporanei!

dovrebbe uscire il DVD in Italia, ma io intanto mi sono presa la libertà di vedere di cosa si tratta :p

vista la prima puntata - purtroppo in Inglese. opinione? mah nn saprei. i disegni non sono i soliti a cui siamo abituati (tipo quelli sopra). non hanno tanti dettagli come il solito. e la storia? strana! non mi sono ancora fatta un'idea! ma il synopsis letto su AnimeNewsNetwork non mi incoraggia molto.

beh, ero annoiata e non avevo voglia di studiare.. che si fa? si guarda la seconda puntata di Paranoia Agent. man was that weird!! è un pò inquietante questa puntata, e lascia un grandissimo punto interrogativo! cmq ogni puntata racconta la storia di qlcn che subisce in qualche modo danno da questo ragazzo delle elementari con gli skates dorati.. ma ancora non si capisce se esiste!
intanto la prima vittima pare sia un pò svitata.. !!
sui disegni: sembra quasi ci sia un velo che rende tutto opaco. i colori non brillano. l'animazione invece è abbastanza fluida. ecco alcune immagini

did you watch 1st ep of Full Metal Alchemist?!

so, since last night (@ 21:00) on MTV Italia was Full Metal Alchemist's first night, i went home earlier than usual to watch it. @ 21:00 i was finishing my dinner as the 1st titles started showing up...

.. too bad that that is the moment when my grandma and uncle decided they wanted to talk about street conditions near my house and, while they were at it, complain about me not eating fruit, with my 11-year-old cousin adding a comment every now and then !! aaaaah ! i missed the whole beginning and crucial bits n pieces of the following story !!

this calls for IMMEDIATE ACTION !!

on a side note: i found the lyrics to "Another Planet" by Kawada Mami (from Shakugan no Shana). Still looking for the translation! if u got it,kurete kudasai !! :)

siccome ieri sera alle 21:00 su MTV Italia c'era la prima puntata di Full Metal Alchemist, sono tornata a casa prima del solito per vederla. alle 21:00 stavo finendo di cenare mentre i primi titoli cominciavano a scorrre...

.. peccato che proprio in quel momento mia nonna e mio zio hanno deciso che volevano parlare della situazione delle strade intorno a casa e, già che c'erano, lamentarsi perché non volevo mangiare la frutta, e ogni tanto la mia cugina 11enne inseriva qualche commento qua e la! aaaaaah! mi sono persa tutto l'inizio e parti cruciali durante l'intera storia!!

questo richiede un'AZIONE IMMEDIATA !!

nota a parte: ho trovato le parole della canzone "Another Planet" di Kawada Mami (di Shakugan no Shana). Sto ancora cercando la traduzione! se ce l'hai, kurete kudasai !! :)

always Ghibli news!

i finally found out that some region2 DVDs of Kaze no Tani no Naushika (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) are available.. in the UK for now !! i wonder when we'll have them in Italy as well..

Naushika & LAWKI

xmas vacation is the best excuse to catch up on goofing off!!

the anime was great, but this time i went for the manga: it was even better ! i love how Miyazaki manages everytime to engulf you in a magical space, never giving away the ending.. and leaving you in mid-air, waiting for something that's not coming !
7 volumes, one better than the other. i just couldn't wait to find out how the story evolves. the manga is totally different from the anime.
I once read that, when Miyazaki starts a new project, he never has the whole story in his mind: it just comes as he goes on! the ending is always a surprise to him as well !

Life As We Know It (LAWKI)

ok, so MTV.IT announced it'd be airing this series starting 29/12/2005 on thursday nights at 21. but i just couldn't wait! the trailer was too intriguing, i just went ahead and watched the whole 1st season! 13 episodes in all.. i loved that show! great laughs, wonderful music, and helpful insights on the different worlds there are out there: the way girls think, the way guys think, grown-ups, parents, friends, teenagers, and.. just people !

actually, i didn't watch the whole 1st season, i only watched the episodes that were produced; 5 episode-scripts were never sent to production, and ABC canceled the show! bummer. seems like people in the US would much rather watch "The OC" than LAWKI. too bad, was really looking forward to more episodes.

FYI: Ghibli Studios
Its name derives from the nickname the Italians used for their Saharan scouting planes in the Second World War, which derived from the Italian word for hot wind blowing through the Sahara Desert (scirocco). Though the term is Italian, the Japanese pronunciation of the studio's name is 'ji-bree' or 'ji-bu-ri'. The theory behind the name was that the studio was blowing a new wind into the anime industry.

new Ghibli movie!

Studio Ghibli has officially announced that their next feature film will be Gedo Senki (Gedo War History)

, directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki. The film will be an adaptation of Ursula K Le Guin's "A Wizard of Earthsea," and will be released in the Japanese theatres in July 2006.

Lo Studio Ghibli ha ufficialmente annunciato che il loro prossimo film sara` Gedo Senki, diretto da Goro Miyazaki. Il film sara` un'adattazione di "Un mago di Earthsea" di Ursula K Le Guin, e uscira` nelle sale Giapponesi nel Luglio 2006.
